Guide to repair damaged walls

On many occasions the walls or ceilings of the house do not look the best way due to cracks and cracks that cause the passage of time, moisture or poorly applied repairs, fortunately it is easy to remedy these damages without much effort.

A wall with damages basically affects the symmetry of our house, no matter how small the crack, sometimes it is annoying to see a wall with problems. In addition, cracks can also be points of moisture contamination.

To repair damaged walls, the first step is to know what type of material is most convenient to fill. Each wall has a different composition, so materials with special characteristics will be needed.

Plaster walls
If the damaged wall is made of plaster, you will have to use the same material (it may be different but it must be at least the same color and, preferably, of greater durability). Stuffed with the material, this would be the first layer. Remember that the plaster often shrinks just before drying completely, so you must add a second layer to finish. Once the second layer dries, sandpaper passes to the surface to smooth it.

Cement walls
For concrete walls, do not apply wet cement in the hole immediately. If you do this, the cement will drip out and leave with another mess to clean. Before pouring the cement into the hole try to get something that can make the cement stand on itself while it dries inside. A metal mesh can be used, since it can easily enter the hole without obstructing the flow of fresh cement. Once you have this support material ready, pour a layer of wet cement. Repeat the procedure several times while the last layer dries up to fill completely.

The holes in the wooden walls are a bit more complicated to fix, mainly because there are relatively few materials that mimic the texture and appearance of the wood. But fortunately there are materials that can do this, such as standard wood putty. As you applied the plaster material, you can do it with the wood putty using a special spatula. This time you will not have to wait for the layers to dry to reapply the putty. After filling, use sandpaper to level the surface and you will have finished.

Tips for cracks
In many cases it is inevitable the appearance of cracks in the walls of the house, so it is best to act as soon as they appear to avoid greater evils.
If the cracks are small (they should not be wider than 3 mm), the repair is simple and fast. You must apply a little plastic plaster or plaster and try to penetrate the crack. Let it dry, sand a little and paint the same color as the wall.

If the crack is not so small and its width exceeds 5 millimeters, your arrangement will be a little more complicated. The first thing will be to chop the wall with the help of a chisel to open the crack. You can also scrape the edges of it a bit and allow the plaster or putty to grip better. Then remove the dust with a brush. Then moisten the area and prepare a mixture of lime. With a spatula cover the entire crack well, let it dry and with a fine grain sandpaper proceed to sand to remove imperfections.

Finally paint the color of the wall, this work generates enough dust, so it is convenient to do it in a well ventilated environment and cover the furniture in the room.
